Our SIP support currently allows:
- Allow patrons/customers to log in with their library (card) account
- Admins/staff can manually sync patrons to myTurn
- Map Patron Types to myTurn Membership Types (for patrons and staff)
- See: SSO > Group Mappings
- Block based on Patron Type, Fine/Fees limit, etc.
Upcoming updates may also allow you to:
- Check items out and back into your main catalog when they are loaned in myTurn
- SIP does not currently allow your main catalog to communicate to us when items are checked in/out, so you will want to block check in/out of these items in your main catalog when this feature is released.
How SIP2 Sync Works (Polaris, Koha, Sirsi, etc.)
When myTurn connects to an Integrated Library System (ILS) such as Polaris ILS, Koha, or SirsiDynix Symphony using the SIP2 protocol, there are important limitations to understand.
1. Initial Sync Must Be by Barcode
SIP2 does not support searching or syncing users by name.
The first time a borrower is synced into myTurn, it must be done using their library card number / barcode.
After the borrower has been synced once, you may search for them by name within myTurn.
2. When Users Automatically Sync
To ensure borrower information is current, myTurn automatically syncs a user with the ILS at key points:
When the borrower logs in
When you search by barcode
When you start a check-in
When you start a check-out
When you begin the Build Order process
This automatic sync ensures you see any newly applied blocks, fines, or status changes before handing items to a borrower or when processing returns.
3. Manual Refresh Option
When viewing a borrower record, you can manually trigger a re-sync by clicking the Refresh button in the toolbar near the top of the page.
Use this if:
You suspect the borrower’s status has just changed
A block was recently cleared
You want to confirm the most current ILS status before proceeding
Summary
First sync = barcode required
Name search works after initial sync
Sync happens automatically at critical workflow steps
Manual refresh is always available
These safeguards help prevent lending items to borrowers who have been newly blocked or restricted in the library system.
Configuring SIP
Please contact for information on how to integrate your site via SIP2, though will need the following information:
- Host (name preferred, IP ok)
- Port
- Login
- Password
- Location Code (if required)
- Do you support secure connections? (strongly recommended)
- Should myTurn log into your SIP server before sending commands (default is yes)
- Which SIP field is the Patron Expiration date sent in?
- Do you block based on fees/fines, and if so, what is the limit?
