You can specify item by item, or using Item Type Defaults, which items can be picked up at other locations vs which must be picked up and returned to their home location.
For example, if you have an internal courier service that can only transport certain items between locations, those items can be marked as "Floating" (can move between locations) while other items must be picked up/returned to the Item's Home Location.
As part of these changes, we have removed:
Settings > Loans & Reservations > Reservations > Location Rules
which required either all or no items to be able to be picked up at other locations, to a system where you can control which items can be picked up at other locations and adding new options.
For Inventory items, you can either edit individual items or set Item Default Values and configure the following:
- Floating: when this option is set, the item can be picked up at any location that allows pickups
- Goes Home: when this item is checked in at a different location than the items Home Location, an alert will be given to the admin checking in the item, and the item will show up on Inventory > Transfer Items (see below on how this option interacts with the "Transfer Workflows").
When editing an individual item, you will need to override the default to change the Floating or Goes Home setting:
Transfer Workflows
You can now also enable or disable Transfer Workflows. The transfer workflows give you a formal process to transfer items between locations either to send them back home if they are checked back in at a different location, to transfer them to another location because they are needed for a reservation, or to more formally move inventory between two locations.
To enable the transfer workflow, go to:
Settings > Loans & Reservations > Reservations
and check "Enable Transfer Workflows" to enable the more formal transfer workflow process. This will enable the following features:
- Inventory > Transfer Items
- Inventory > Receive Items
- "Transfer" button on individual Item pages
- Transfer option on Build Order
- Transfer / Receive buttons on the Admin Dashboard for Location/Limited admins
If the Transfer Workflows are disabled, you will still receive visual cues and warnings about items needing to be transferred. This will include an alert when checking items in, and warnings on the Inventory > List Reservations page; however, all transfers will take place automatically. For example, on the Build Order page, when an item is moved from the Reservation to the Order, the Current Location of the item will be automatically set to the Location the admin has set on the top of the page (where they are working). Similarly, when you check an item in or out, it's Current Location will be set to the location of the admin.
